The 8 million town belongs to the most exotic and most dynamic cities of the world.

We already notice that after our arrival on the airport in the north of Bangkok and with our taxi-trip into the center of the city. At the first gaze, we see more skyscrapers than alltogether spread over Germany. And everywhere in the city there are unending rows of cars, in which the people could not resist the murdering heat without the unremittingly current air-conditionings

Our taxi tries to drive through the terrible traffic and brings us on hidden paths to the hotel Rembrandt, in which we will live for the next 5 days. Here is everything first-class. There is missing neither the pool nor that Top-Restaurant in the upper floor with a fantastic outlook on the downtown.

We feel the climate in Bangkok as extraordinarily hot and heavy muggy. We have end of November and according to climate-card, it should be the favorable season with 3 or 4 raining days. But in the shadow it is 32 degrees Celsius. Actually, it has not at all rained during our stay.

As we look for a restaurant in the lunchtime in that quarter, in which the king-palace and the Wat Po are laying, we can't find anyone. Finally, we find a small, rustic furnished pub. But the landlady asks us to leave because the pub is opened only for Thais.

Finally, we come to the Maharaj-quai at the river Chao Phraya near the Wat Po. There, active drift prevails, but a really comfortable place for lunch we can't find even there, however each quantity national snackbars.

At the edge we discover a generous restaurant, laying directly at the river. We want to enter the restaurant and have to go through a big gate in the park, but a soldier denies the admittance: Military terrain.

Suddenly we notice how an old man, that kneels behind a national grill, waves us again and again. Finally, we understand: We go through a narrow, hidden corridor and suddenly we stay in the kitchen of the Military-Casino.

After some doubts, we plunge into the milling crowd of the fully busy restaurant and we have never again eaten and drunk so affordable and so pleasantly while overlooking the hustle and bustle on the river Chao Phraya.
Another nice places for lunch and dinner one can find in Chinatown, where yuo can eat well and originally. And we found directly beside our hotel Rembrandt a groomed garden-restaurant, that was led very well by a Swiss owner.

With its night-markets, charcoal-grills, noodle-stores and small-kitchens, Bangkok resembles an unending street-restaurant. The Thai people stroll with enjoyment from snack to snack through the city.

Hotels were extraordinarily inexpensive in Bangkok for us. Through the multiplicity of the new-objects, the customer really is a king. We booked 4 overnight stays together with the purchase of the flight. We paid for the night in the luxurious hotel Rembrandt per person 44,00 DM, i.e.about 20 USD. A super-buffet-breakfast was included.

Our travel guide noticed: Rembrandt hotel, Sukhumvit Rd., Soi 18. New hotel with pool, Mexican, Japanese and Indian restaurant in ideal situation for shopping and nightlife.

If one rummages perspiration-bathed on the colorful, lively markets or drifts with the people into the glittering spaceship-coolness of the department stores, shopping is fun in Bangkok. One sees the rich ladies of the Thai-high society strolling in the luxury-department stores in finest French Haute Couture or in outfits from Thai-silk through the shops of the international designer-brands. According to the size of the Thai people, the clothing-sizes are small, and clothing und shoes mostly don't suit the tourists. Europäer haben deshalb beim Einkaufen von Textilien und Schuhen erhebliche Probleme.

Bangkok's red-light-quarter about the Patpong Road and the Spoi Cowboy attracts tourists from around the world. But also at the Sukhumvit Road and their side streets, especially at the Soi 55, there are enough pubs, but also bars with girls, who participate in everything. Only one should know that real beauties are very rare. For women there are Ladies-Clubs, likethe Chippendales.

In one of the bars, we noticed, that unusually pretty girls danced there as Gogo-Girls and stood at the bar. And they flirted with joke and charm to the male guests.

Suddenly a blond man told me at the bar, he would come from Scandinavia and would be in Thailand in every winter.   It would please him very much in Thailand. But unfortunately the nicest girls are in reality boys. That was also his opinion about this beautiful girl on the photo.

The swimming markets belong to each program of the organized tours. We recommend, drive with the swimming buses, the normal means of transportation of the Thai.

You can depart from many individual stations at the river Chao Phraya. The boat-tickets are inexpensively and one can get out along the river where one wants. A particular pleasure is, to sit on the terrace of the prominent Hotel Shangri-La look at the wonderful sunset behind the river and behind the towers of Wat Arun (temple of the morning-redness).

From the Maharaj-kays we made a ship-tour in a typical long-boat through the canals of Bangkok, only with two passengers on board. A phantastic experience! At the stern of the boat, a heavy truck-engine is installed. The engine lasts on one point, on the one hand reaches the propeller with a long shaft into the water and on the other hand the boatsman keeps the steering on a long shaft. When the boat ist starting on the big river with a full sound of the large engine, one thinks, the boat would take off the water. So much power is in it. The price is amazingly low and stands in no relationship to the great pleasure, that we felt with the trip.
