Thailand belongs to the few countries, that never became colonized. Thai meets foreign visitors respectfully and with relaxed self-confidence.

Thailand is almost 50% bigger than Germany. Approximately 95% that of Thai are supporters of the Theravada-Buddhismus, that directly retraces his origin on the teaching of the Gautama Buddha from the 6. century before Christ.

Thailand has 60 million inhabitants, Chinese are 11% of it. The share of the city-population amounts    to 20%.

Currency is the Baht. 100 Bahts cost middle of 2001 2,40 USD approximately. The price level is favorable for us.

With illness, one can look for one of the state hospitals. The care is good and favorable.

With taxi-drivers and in small stores, haggling is duty. One offer the half and agree on two third of the first-price.

Many taxi-drivers cannot read well. As we gave a taxi-driver the calling card of the hotel in order to be driven there, the taxi-driver admittedly accelerated, but he did not know where to go in reality. As I talked to him, should look at the card however, he helt the card with top downwards. Only through many questions and enormous detours, we came to the hotel. Therefore is prerequisite, to fix the price previously. But is also important to find a taxi-driver, who can speak English.

The rain-time is between May and Octobers. The monsoon brings irregular, heavy precipitations then. On Phuket and Ko Phi Phi it rains in may/june and in september/oktober, on Ko Samui in oktober/november, mainly.
