Mayan Cult Place

Water Sports

Xcaret is a historical place of the Maya, that lies directly at the coast, at "Quintana Roo". In the extensive forest-area of 80 hectares, one is met with a lot of relatively well gotten temples and buildings.

A 2000 year old match in a historic stadium, that the Maya named ULAMA, is impressive. The game will be played with a 9-pound's rubber ball, that is only allowed to move with the hips. The ball must be shot through the hole of a stone-wreath, that is above on the wall.

In the evening, we are led into a mysterious travel into the past of the Maya. The way leads through subterranean tunnels and caves, that are illuminated picturesque with torches and lights.

We visit the village Maya and are amazed at the fire-rite, the dances and the Maya in its historic outfits.
We hear the drums in the jungle and stay suddenly in front of a pyramid, that gleams in the light of the candles. We experience old rites, that pay homage to the God.

Xcaret lies 72 km southwestern from Cancun and only 6 km from Playa del Carmen. It is built around the ruins of the former historic Maya harbour Pole.

With a visit of Xcaret, we recommend necessarily to plan on the attractions in the evening from 17:30. In an amphitheater, one experiences splendid folklore, the famous artists and a Latenight-Maya - show, since one doesn't forget.

Did you know that all rivers are subterranean on Yucatan? Also in Xcaret, there are subterranean rivers. Whoever is courageous, climbs approximately 10 m deep into a cave an and swims with the many other visitors in a subterranean river. One glides through river - and hollow out-systems. Light and dark alternates. The water is crystal-clear, according to the light coming through the holes in the blanket natural or from human-hand created, it is turquoise-colored, dark-green, blue or dawns.

At the ground, one can see any limestone in the sand or grotesquely molded walls. The longer one swims and glides, all the more, one loses each reference at the moment and to the real world. With dark stretch-sections, it can become horrifying.

One hears suddenly guitar sounds. At a rock-opening sits a guitar player and we look into that under the earth laying gigantic amphitheater, in which we will experience a splendid performance of Mexican folklore little later.
The spook is past approximately after one half kilometer. Outdoors, one senses the hot sunbeams again. Happy votes of past-strolling people bring back one into the reality.
